From Equality To Diversity: Kazuyo Sejima

For its Spring/Summer 2019 collection, Prada has invited three leading female architects, one of them is one and only Kazuyo Sejima. Think of a person who can shape the universe with her creativity who can see each concept within architecture, she somehow knows how to convey an idea and shape it into reality. The way she envisions the style of her designs so fluid and transparent gives us hope… In each detail, nature give you a glimpse of ‘connection’ within. In such wide world as architecture, where there is so many limitations regarding the materials but yet she doesn’t accept the word no. She is a person who can find 99 other ways to achieve what she wants. Twisting the materials with the vision of creativity gives the question of What is the rule behind creating?  Sejima shows that there is no word such limitations…  

This year she partnered up with Prada with its special project ‘Prada Invites’, a project on created by women for women, the new idea of Prada opens a fascinating conversation on women empowerment, collaborative work and self-love! The Italian fashion house tasked the trio of influential females to devise items for women crafted from its emblematic nylon fabric. this marks the second iteration of the ‘Prada invites’ project, From the classic ‘Prada Nylon’ Kazuya Sejima created a multifunctional design-a bag which can be worn many ways… 

Üretim süreci ve çalışma hızına baktığımızda bir binanın mimarisine yaklaşmakla bir moda ürünü tasarlamak arasında dağlar kadar fark var, ama bir düşünceden bir form yaratma sürecine baktığımızda, bu ikisi için de aynı.

She explains her design for Prada, ‘’A bag is something that is always close to your body. At times you end up hugging it, and other time you put it over your shoulder: much like a ‘pet’, it was important to be able to personalize the bag, shape and accessories, the way you hold it, the way you hold it, the way you use it and where you take it’’  

Prada’dan gelen talimatta sadece markanın ikonik naylon kumaşından bir şeyler tasarlamak vardı, bunun dışında ne ürünün türü, ne rengi ne de kumaşından… Giyilebilir, yumuşacık ve kişiselleştirilebilen bir şeyler tasarlama fikri hoşuma gitti.

Within her design aesthetic she breaks so many rules in the industry of art, from equality to diversity… With the digital era and how technology started to be the cause of communication. With the digital era and how technology helps people communicate faster each day. In the world right now these conversations such as female empowerment, diversity, racism means more than ever.
