Fast Track w/ Mert Ramazan Demir

There are moments in life when self-confidence sharpens, steps become deliberate, and one aligns more strongly with their core. In those moments, it’s not only about knowing what you want, it’s about recognizing what you already possess. Letting what is already there step forward. Moving ahead without the need to explain yourself. A stance, as much as a form of awareness. Every encounter with Mert Ramazan Demir evokes exactly this feeling. His progression is unhurried, yet never hesitant; assertive without raising his voice. Rather than defining his career through a single turning point, he lets acting remain central: shaped by time, fracture, and accumulation… and keeps moving forward, calm and assured.

DUYGU Has acting, over time, become more of an identity for you than a profession, or is it still an area where you consciously keep a certain distance?

MERT Acting stands at the centre of my life, but I don’t allow it to define me on its own. It’s something I invest long hours and deep thought into, but it’s not my entire identity. Keeping that distance is good for me.

DUYGU When you look back at your professional journey, what was the breaking point that brought you to where you are today?

MERT It wouldn’t be right to speak of a single breaking point. Even between the moment I decided to become an actor and the first day I stepped onto a set, there were already many. It wasn’t a sudden transformation, it was shaped by the accumulation of those moments.

DUYGU When you say “yes” to a character, what motivates you the most?

MERT The character’s sense of reality. Feeling like someone I could encounter on the street, someone who truly exists in life.

Mert wears a shirt by Burberry, a jacket by Amiri, and pants by COS.

“Almost every decision in this industry carries an unpredictable risk. I move forward with an awareness of those blurred areas. That way, I don’t experience major disappointments or unexpected surprises.”

– Mert Ramazan Demir

What defines a “good role” for you?

MERT My expectations change depending on the genre and what the story wants to say, of course. But for me, a good role is one where the character has been carefully thought through and constructed in every detail.

DUYGU When you find yourself struggling within a project, how do you create space to regain motivation?

MERT First and foremost, I do everything I can not to lose my motivation. But if I still feel uncomfortable despite that, I hold onto the character.

DUYGU In an era where fame arrives so quickly, how do you separate your inner voice from external noise?

MERT I don’t spend time on social media. I think that’s one of the best things I can do for myself and my profession. When the noise fades, it becomes much clearer what you should focus on.

Mert wears a trenchcoat, a shirt and a tie by Burberry, pants by Les Benjamins and shoes by Kundura.

DUYGU Is your motivation in acting driven more by the desire to push yourself further, or by the urge to make space for untold stories?

MERT Both. Right now, pushing myself as an actor feels exciting. But for that growth to mean something, it needs original and powerful stories to carry it.

“When I’m on set, I’m more sensitive to everything happening around me. I become more controlling, in order to protect the moment and the space. Off-camera, I return to my own world: I’m more relaxed, more flexible in every way.”

DUYGU What’s the difference between Mert Ramazan Demir on camera and off camera?

MERT When I’m on set, I’m more sensitive to everything happening around me. I become more controlling, in order to protect the moment and the space. Off-camera, I return to my own world: I’m more relaxed, more flexible in every way.

DUYGU Was there a decision in your career that you consider a real risk and how do you view it today?

MERT Almost every decision in this industry carries an unpredictable risk. I move forward with an awareness of those blurred areas. That way, I don’t experience major disappointments or unexpected surprises.

DUYGU How has your understanding of success evolved over time? How would you define it today?

MERT I used to measure it through more visible things. Now, the connection I have with my work feels more defining.

DUYGU Your hair is one of the strongest narrative elements of your appearance. Do you see it as more than an aesthetic detail, like an extension of character?

MERT It can offer an aesthetic idea, of course, but its real impact appears in how a character is perceived. It’s not just about style: the care given to hair and overall appearance contributes to a character’s world, habits, and state of mind. Hair that looks clean, well-kept, and free of dandruff strengthens this perception. That’s why Head & Shoulders plays an essential role in my daily routine, helping to keep my hair healthy and balanced with effective anti-dandruff care.

DUYGU We know that style, for you, is more about stance than following trends. What do you consciously distance yourself from while shaping your own line?

MERT Anything forced. Or overly calculated.

DUYGU Do you feel your style has evolved over time, or has the essence remained the same while only the form changes?

MERT I’m open to trying new things. I tend to be conservative with colour and pattern, but I enjoy changing form.

Mert wears a bomber, and pants by Les Benjamins, a shirt by Boss and a jersey by Nike x Martin Rose collab.

DUYGU If you had to describe today’s Mert Ramazan Demir with a single word, what would it be, and why?

MERT Calm. I’m in a phase where I’m living my life more quietly and simply, in every sense.
