Donmonique

So this is a kind of a no compromise situation; DonMonique has entered the music scene, drilling us with her beats which are a tribute to the days of true rap – think Lil’Kim – but with an added décor, indicative of today’s youth obsessed celebrity culture with an East Coast vibe; take Pilates, from her first EP Thirst Trap. She shouts out Kendall, Kylie and Miley as metaphors for weed, coke and Molly, respectively. DonMonique’s presence has given rise to the new coolness in the Brooklyn scene, and she makes no apologies for this, especially given this is a man’s world; “I just get by being me and not apologizing for it.”

With a father in Brooklyn and a mother in the Bronx, DonMonique has a mesh of the uptown & downtown attitude, and she describes her upbringing as “a lot of fun. I feel like I had to grow up a little faster than most because NYC in general is such a fast place. You have to get with the program quick. But my upbringing was cool, I like to believe that it was very normal.” This versatility in her upbringing has given way to a new type of vocal and visual. The result? Thirst Trap; “Thirst Trap is my own genre of music. I basically took a phrase that’s popular right now and made it into my own thing and meaning.” The idea is that the music is catchy, but at the same time its sexy and cute, as DonMonique has described in the past, “I honestly just kept making songs until I felt like I had a project.”
DonMonique hakkında gerçekler.

The high school years…

In high school I didn’t really have many friends. I stayed to myself. Went to school and went home. I don’t know how I survived actually.

The character…

I’m not an R&B artist, I’m a rapper!

The work process…

Stelios Phili produces the majority of my stuff. I’m very hands on when it comes to making the beat. I usually come up with the hook first then work on the verses.

Musical influences…

Kim, Biggie, Foxy, Earl…

The future…

Can’t give away too much but we’re using a lot of live instruments this time around! I want to sign eventually, tour more whilst networking and giving my all at each and every show, and drop an album.
Trap benim kendi müzik türüm. Aslında sadece bu aralar popüler olan bir kavramı aldım ve onu kendimin yapıp anlam kattım.
Thirst Trap is my own genre of music. I basically took a phrase that’s popular right now and made it into my own thing and meaning.
