With her photographs that prioritizes realism, Pixy Lio is the interpreter of many emotions that we want to say out loud but got stuck to our throats. The years she spent as a graphic designer made a huge contribution to her own language, with the help of the thousands of images she saw throughout these years. For Pixy, who works in different mediums, what is important are the ideas rather than disciplines. ” Photography is my most used medium. I’m also interested in making objects and videos. For me, they are not separated. They are all just ways to realize the ideas.”
What does human gestures mean for your work?
As humans, we are so sensitive to body gestures. We can learn so many things from one’s gestures. In my photos, I really think about how we can “interact” with each other to convey the ideas.
Is your work more about creating moments or observing them?
I guess you can say creating moments. My work is like a notebook on my ideas. It’s not really about moments. It’s about my desire to visualize something in mind.

Do you have a milestone in your life where you really felt you are an artist?
That would be the time I lost my part time job and I decided why not try not to have a job and make more artwork.
In your imagery you use lots of “irony” how does that word reflect on you on your personal life?
I consider that making fun. In real life, many things can be too boring for me. In order to cheer myself up, I like to make fun of it. That’s the same way I do with my work.
