“Replica of the Original” at SALT Beyoğlu

Would you like to witness the evolution of an art piece over time and delve into the new meanings it has gained through interaction with other works and audiences? Curated and prepared by Amira Akbıyıkoğlu “Replica of the Original” comprises of 15 selected pieces hand picked from the collections of Tansa Mermerci Ekşioğlu and Ayşe Umur and can be visited at Salt Beyoğlu between the 22nd of May and August 18th.

The exhibition centers on the individual presentations by Handan Börüteçene and Mark Dion, whose artistic practices benefit from archaeology and history. Nancy Atakan, Kader Attia, Cansu Çakar, Aslı Çavuşoğlu, Haris Epaminonda, Iman Issa, Laure Prouvost, Pak Sheung Chuenand Dilek Winchester are other artists whose work are showcased.

“Replica of the Original” indicates the manifold conventions that occur in the event a collected artwork reenters the public space, where new meanings and interactions form among the other works, the viewers, and the environment.

The exhibition can be described as one that “revolves around the topic of objects holding a life story within themlselves just as well as living beings do and therefore turns to exploring how artists interact with the material world in terms of use, organization and shape” as stated by Akbıyıkoğlu, herself.
