Take a Step Closer, You Can Hear The Sound of Fabrics

Attending only international fashion weeks for a very long time, Hakan Yıldırım presented his new collection by the magical Bosphorus in Istanbul. Beginning with Sezen Aksu’s song “Dört Günlük Bir Şey,” the invitation video gave us only one hint – that we were going to go on a journey into his mind passing through purple bunches, just as we do in his brand’s atelier and showroom in Nişantaşı, decorated with purple bunches.

The thousands of flowers in the collection are handmade in this atelier. As the fabric feathers of boas fly about, the star and heart end details further strengthen the romance of this secret garden. The ruffles which add volume to clothes seem to bring a unique flora to the garden. The sparkles of crystals and beads dazzle your eyes and you can hear the sound of fabrics.

The pieces of the collection portray a scene from the legends. It reminds the audience of the garden of gems which Gılgamesh visits in his dream who sets out to look for immortality after shedding tears after his friend Enkidu. “There hang grape vines carrying onyx fruit. It looks pleasant.”

Described by Hakan Yıldırım as the “way I want to see the world as a designer,” the collection makes you forget about the long hours it took to create it and feels as if everything has reached a balance in its natural state. “All pieces represent forms of all the silhouettes I’ve been happy to design and all the memories that have inspired me which don’t belong to a specific point in time.”

With this show in Turkey years later, the designer expresses his gratitude in his own language for the land and people that raised him and the feelings they gave him.
