Hedi Slimane is here to steal Céline-lovers’ hearts back, despite off all the disappointments and criticisms by throwing brand’s Parisian spirit and twisting it since the day he became the creative director of the brand. Last night as a part of Paris Fashion Week, designer welcomed the guests with a light show, before he presented his AW 19-20 collection. The way he designed the new collection for the brand, shows, he is no longer in Saint Lauren mood, he well made his research in Celine archives and he definitely turned back to the 70’s.
Designs are colored with grey, burgundy and camel tones instead of full black looks as before, as they are supported with the plaid, stripe and polka-dot patterns. Collection is nearly based on culottes, and shirts and turtleneck jerseys on top are the best partners of these looks. As wool, velvet, leather and sequin are becoming the prominent fabrics, the way that jeans are on the runway as an unusual situation, emphasizes that collection supports the daily style as well. Coats, ponchos, furs and different textured jackets are providing a wide range for outerwear. Over the knee boots in black, burgundy, green and camel colors are attracting our attention with inner fur detail. The old iconic logo of Celine is getting out of the archives and takes its place on belts and bags. Sunglasses on every single model and the luminousness of the place trying to tell us that despite of the darkness outside show is aiming to refer to daylight and the perfect relationship in between the designs and street style. Models on the runway walking in a confident and strong attitude with their natural hair and make-up style, creates a magnificent harmony with the show music beats.
Even if it is not the exact Phoebe Philo’s minimalist Céline, the way that Hedi Slimane turning back to the brand’s DNA made it to surprise everyone. As we are looking forward to see the Slimane’s next move, also we are very grateful to see that Celine is back!
